Condo Living: An Excellent Guide to Raising Kids in a Condo

If you have ever been to a condominium unit before, you would know that while it capitalizes on convenience, it is hardly big on space—unless the homeowner has elected to modify it for which would require few hundreds (or even millions) to spare.

In this regard, while cultivating a good relationship with your family as well as a tight bond with your kids would be feasible in a rather diminutive space, the same cannot be said about raising them.

After all, if your kids do not have much room to move and run around in your homes, they would inevitable feel stifled in a cramped area. However, while this remains true, it has not stopped families from moving into condos and raising their kids in there which means that it can definitely be done.

Although it can be a bit challenging, know that it is nonetheless rewarding. As you are living in a smaller space, you would inevitably have to compromise on a few things and your creativity would be put to the test. In any case, here is a definitive guide as to how to raise your kids in a condo.

How to raise kids in a condo

1) Organize your stuff

Living in a condo by yourself can already put a distinct pall when it comes to the organization of your personal belongings—particularly if you have quite a lot of them. However, with kids—especially ones as old as 3-9 years old, it can potentially be a nightmare. You have your stuff and they would too.

Unfortunately, while you can easily organize and put your stuff away, kids are different. They love and revel in the clutter which essentially means finding one of their toys every now and then in almost every nook and cranny of your unit.

To address this, make certain that you have a strict rule enforced as to organization. Provide container boxes for your kids’ toys which they are to immediately put away after they are done playing. Teach them to organize their own things for a less stressful and clutter-free life.

2) Manage noise with fun games

Kids can easily get bored, but instead of handing them your handheld gadgets such as your phone or tablets, why not think of a fun game to have them occupied and entertained?

Noise can easily pass through walls in condos so if your kids are making too much noise, you would also be subjecting your neighbors to their screams and cries. Play games like old classics such as Simon Says and the like. You can even choose to join the fun by playing Dress up with them as well.

3) Introduce your kids to your neighbors and vice versa

To avoid conflict and arguments brought about by the noise effected by your children, introduce them to your neighbors beforehand and vice versa. Your neighbors might be a bit more understanding and even sympathetic should noise erupt.

Moreover, your old children would be a bit more conscious in making too much noise knowing that it would not be just you who would hear them.

4) Watch TV together

Condo living is an excellent avenue for strengthening family bonds and fostering close-knit ties. Unfortunately, the compact space can feel rather limiting and may even cause you to be annoyed by your family members.

To avoid such a scenario, transform one part of the condo into a space solely dedicated for fun family activities such as watching TV shows and films or playing game consoles together.

5) Be generous with praises

Have your kids help you with household work and when they accomplish tasks, never forget to praise them. Household work builds good character in your kids as this instills discipline, skill and cooperation.

Be appreciative with your kids and encouraging as well and you might just motivate them to do more chores around the house.
