5 Ways to Mitigate Clutter in Small Spaces

Condominium developments have been seen as novel and innovative takes on current residential living arrangements. In fact, condo living has been regarded as the modern way of life with all the contemporary conveniences it affords.

Unfortunately, while it provides ease of access to most areas of interest, its diminutive space can  be quite the pall on your purchasing prospects. Sure, you are near to most shopping centers and your office is practically a stone’s throw away from where you are residing, but you are missing out on a whole lot on space. Not to worry though, is it? After all, it should be a healthy compromise for what your condo unit makes up for in its lack of space.

While diminutive spaces are easy to clean, they can also accumulate a lot of clutter over time and if you do not spruce up routinely, your unit might easily be overwhelmed will all the stuff you have hoarded.

In any case, life does not have to be difficult when you are living in a small space. Here are some of the ways you can ensure you live in a clutter-free unit.

How to mitigate clutter in small spaces

1) Purge regularly

To succeed in this endeavor, it would only be obvious to ensure that you have less stuff in possession. This one should be obvious and should be your initial step towards achieving your endeavor. If you have been living in your unit for quite a while, you might have to get rid of a lot of items.

Dedicate at least two weekends for your purging efforts. It might be a little overwhelming at first, but you will ease in to it. Once you have only a few items left to clean up and organize, you would realize how very rewarding this can be.

2) Dedicate space for everything

Do not leave stuff lying around unless they are purely for décor purposes. Ensure that each and every piece of your belongings has a place to go back into once they are no longer in use. In a small space, having things lying around such as on the floor, countertop and the like can easily overwhelm the space and make it appear cluttered.

Remember, if you cannot find a place to store it in then you might have hoarded way too many things by now.

3) Have more storage space than you think you need

A little extra space never hurt anybody and you would certainly need it. Clutter can be sneaky and it tends to expand which means you need to have more storage space than necessary. Have an empty box underneath your bed or have a big plastic box stowed away in case you might need it.

In this regard, if you have things lying around without a storage yet, you can easily tuck them away in one of your unused containers.

4) Use the walls

To give your unit a more personalized feel as well as display some of your belongings, utilize your walls by installing shelves and wall-hung organizers. Store some of your belongings in these so long as they are appropriate for display as well.

Moreover, never neglect the space above other things such as cabinets, pot rails above sinks, shelves, cabinets and even fridges as these can be great storage areas for your other stuff as well.

5) Stop clutter before it starts

Clutter tends to expand as previously stated. In this regard, it is best to stop it before it even starts—even before it crosses beyond your front door. Create a landing strip near your front door where you are to situate all the clutter you bring outside to the inside.

Control it right where you can see it so that it can be easily mitigated.
